SimplyKnown

SimplyKnown

your doomscrolling companion

SimplyKnown is a small workshop run by one person. It makes short history and science videos, and it builds the software that makes them — plus a few tools that turned out to be useful enough to open up to everyone else.

What this is

A workshop, not a company

Everything under simplyknown.co is built and run by one operator. There is no team, no funding round, and no growth plan. Each project started as a problem worth solving once — a video that took too long to assemble by hand, a property spreadsheet that never stayed current, a tablet a toddler could actually be handed.

The public face is @simplyknownfacts, a set of short-form channels posting roughly one-minute history and science videos. Those videos are produced by the Video Creator pipeline, which is itself one of the projects here.

Two surfaces are open to anyone: the TikTok posting tool, which sends a finished video file to your own TikTok drafts, and the topic board, where you can suggest and upvote what gets made next. The rest are private apps for work and family, listed here for completeness rather than as an invitation.

At a glance

  • One operator. Everything on this domain is built and maintained by the same person.
  • Two tools are open to the public; four apps are private and sit behind a sign-in.
  • No analytics, no advertising, no cross-site tracking cookies on these pages.
  • Nothing here charges money, and there is no SimplyKnown account to create.
  • Contact goes to one inbox: simplyknownfacts@gmail.com.

The projects

Everything under this domain

Six projects, one operator. The private ones require a sign-in and are listed so the picture is complete — there is a fuller description of each on the apps page.

For TikTok creators

Get a video off your desktop and into TikTok

If you edit on a computer and post from your phone, the last step is usually the worst one: emailing the file to yourself, or waiting on a cable and a cloud sync. The posting tool removes that step. You sign in with TikTok's own login, choose the file, and TikTok puts it in your inbox as a draft.

  • It never sees your password. Sign-in happens on TikTok's own page, through TikTok Login Kit.
  • It never publishes for you. The video arrives as a draft; you caption it and post it yourself.
  • It keeps nothing. The file is relayed to TikTok during the upload and is not stored afterwards.
  • MP4, MOV or WebM, up to 64 MB, one video at a time.

How these are built

Plain pages, small pieces

Every surface here is a static page — hand-written HTML and CSS, no build step and no framework to go stale. They are served from Cloudflare's network; the handful of pieces that need a server are single-purpose functions rather than a monolith sitting behind the site.

That has a practical consequence worth stating plainly: these pages carry no analytics script, no advertising, and no cross-site tracking. The only cookies anything here sets are the ones the TikTok tool needs to know that your browser is connected, and they are described in full in the privacy policy.
